Based in San Diego, California, Family Tree Surrogacy Center has assisted hundreds of intended parents through their surrogacy journey. I spoke with Melinda Guy, Founder and herself a former gestational carrier, about how incredibly rewarding it was to experience her intended parents’ joy as their children were born and how this inspired her to continue working in the field, and eventually starting her own agency. Today, her team assists both domestic and international intended parents throughout the surrogacy journey, from inception to delivery. What inspired you to work in the fertility industry?

After delivering twins as a surrogate in 2001, I was fortunate to be able to work for the agency I went through my surrogacy with for 8 years. I went on to work for an attorney owned agency for another 6 years. Learning the process and sharing my knowledge of being a surrogate I believe helped both surrogates and intended parents feel more at ease through their journey.

We’d love to hear your story – can you share some highlights of the journey since opening in 2014?

Starting with 1 employee and quickly hiring more and have been increasing ever since. FTSC has helped singles, couples and LGBT from around the world complete their family with the help of our team.

Celebrating every milestone

What has been your most rewarding experience personally over your years in this work?

When I gave birth to twins, watching the intended parents’ faces fill with an abundance of joyful emotions was the most rewarding experience. At that very moment I truly knew why I became a surrogate.

What is your advice for intended parents just beginning to consider surrogacy?

Do your research and make sure you feel comfortable with the Agency you work with. We will provide you with clinic and attorney referrals, whom you can speak with about working with our agency. We believe a good match is not only with your surrogate, but with the agency as well.
