Arielle Spiegel created CoFertility in 2018 after seeking answers to fertility questions online and realizing she couldn’t relate to any of the available resources. So she launched CoFertility, first as a social community with lots of personal fertility stories and highly relatable memes, and then as an online platform full of fertility knowledge. She shares with us her story, the inspiration behind CoFertility, helpful advice for intended parents navigating infertility, as well as what life in the ‘new normal’ is looking like.

CoFertility is an incredible resource where intended parents can find ‘every fertility question, asked and answered… by people who get it.’ What inspired you to bring together such a wealth of helpful content and experts – was this exactly what you wished you had at the beginning of your own journey?

Yes! In my own 2.5 year long journey to achieve a healthy pregnancy, despite the fact that I had access to tons of awesome resources while living in NYC, I always felt like any time I sought answers to fertility questions online, the experience was so poor. All I wanted was helpful information that answered my questions but was still digestible, easy to understand, and had a tone of voice I related to. This didn’t seem to exist, so I built it!

You did a great talk at Fertility Rally Live about The Power of Community! Did you always plan for CoFertility to evolve into a community – ie. much more than just an informative resource – and what has it meant for you to see what it has become?

Thank you! We actually launched with our social community first before the site was even live. Prior to founding Co, my career was in social media marketing so I was excited and antsy to begin engaging with others trying to conceive and see what they needed, wanted, and talked about. Our site was taking some time to build and I couldn’t wait!

On our site, we aim to answer every fertility question out there. But on social, we have a little more fun and get a bit more personal. Lots of personal fertility stories and funny memes. And, yes, there’s some helpful fertility information sprinkled in there too, of course. It’s been great to see what our social community has become. One of the most rewarding things to me is when people jump into our Instagram comments to connect with each other and help each other out!

Cuteness overload!

Congrats on the new baby! Between that, moving homes, all the momentum on ‘Co’ and of course Covid — what does your new normal look like and what are you most looking forward to in the new year?

It was definitely an eventful 2020, to say the least! My new normal is pretty much organized chaos. We actually don’t even have much furniture yet, so I’m writing this from a folding table in my kitchen. Every day has been a learning experience and an exercise in prioritization. A lot of the time, I feel like I fail at that, but I try my best to accomplish one thing each day. In the new year, I’m hoping to feel a bit more settled with my family and home…just in time to start thinking about baby #2 and possibly starting fertility treatment up again. Never a dull moment!

What advice would you give to intended parents on GoStork – who are just beginning their family building journey?

I’d tell them to keep doing what they’re doing — educating and informing themselves and never settling for unanswered questions. As long as you’re also working with experienced professionals and doctors, take advantage of online resources that are available to you to make the family-building process a little bit easier.

I’d also say to do whatever helps you feel less overwhelmed. It’s true that the family-building process is a “journey,” and it can be a long one. Finding whatever makes you feel sane throughout that journey (whether that’s meditation, working out, talking to friends, your partner or a mental health professional) is super important.
